Effective July 1, 2023: Leverett Fire Photovoltaic and Energy Storage System Application

On December 9th, 2022 Massachusetts adopted NFPA 1, 2021 Edition, with Massachusetts Amendments. There were significant changes made to Chapters 11 and 52 regarding Photovoltaic (PV) Systems both with and without battery storage. ALL PV systems permitted after December 9th, 2022 shall follow this code and are to be reviewed by the AHJ of the Fire Department before installation. On July 1, 2023 Leverett Fire implemented a new photovoltaic and battery/energy storage application (attached available on our website at LeverettFire.com/permits) and process. Below outline the requirements and process for each type of submittal.

Submittals for roof mounted photovoltaic systems:
- Leverett Fire Photovoltaic Application
- Plan Review Fee of $50.00
- Supporting Documentation (aerial view, site plan, array space calculations, setbacks and egress, placards/labels diagrams, assembly details, manufacturers resource documents, etc.)

Submittals for ground mounted photovoltaic systems:
- Leverett Fire Photovoltaic Application
- Plan Review Fee of $50.00
- Supporting Documentation (site plan, setbacks, placards/labels diagrams, assembly details, manufacturers resource documents, etc.)

Submittals for battery/energy storage systems:
- Leverett Fire Photovoltaic Application
- Completed FP-6 Form (Application for Standard Permit)
- Permit and Inspection Fee of $50.00
- Supporting Documentation (site plan, placards/labels diagrams, assembly details, manufacturers resource documents, etc.)

Note: Here is sample of the AHJ required ESS placard (minimum 6" by 6") and shall be placed at the PV shut off on the outside of the home and on the door of the ESS closet.

- Plan Review Fee of $50.00
- Supporting documentation for roof mounted photovoltaic system (aerial view, site plan, array space calculations, setbacks and egress, placards/labels diagrams, assembly details, manufacturers resource documents, etc.)
- Supporting documentation for battery/energy storage system(s) (site plan, placards/labels diagrams, assembly details, manufacturers resource documents, etc.)

The application(s), supporting documentation, and a check for the appropriate permit fee(s) are to be completed and mailed to the fire department at the following address:

*Fees are based on initial inspection. Failed inspections for non-compliance may be charged an additional re-inspection fee.
